Ever been stuck in your life or business before? Nah, not you right? Me either.
OK, now that we’ve amused ourselves and are ready to step out of denial, let me share something with you that I learned from one of my favorite mentors, (Eben Pagan), that has become a huge part of my success and has made a big impact on my personal growth and in my life’s work.
Eben is someone that I get to hang out with at events, as well as dinner and parties now and then; he is extremely successful with a company set to earn around $30 Million this year from home, and this strategy is one of the biggest reasons why, so I would pay close attention if I were you, I know I did.
The problem that I see over and over again is that so many well meaning people are stuck, frustrated, overwhelmed, or addicted to seminars and info products, (just read my story about “Self Help Hell” in the meet Scott section) that never quite seem to accomplish what they SAY they want to get done or take it to the next level. And that gets me upset AND mad at the same time because they’re holding back from sharing their authentic gifts and talents with the world, and we all suffer because of it.
I know because I was one of them.
So Why Is That?
Speaking from my own experience, I knew what I wanted to do for years, but never quite got around to it. In my mind I actually got myself to believe that I was doing something because I was THINKING about it all the time, dreaming about it, living it in my mind, but at the end of the day, I wasn’t doing it or being real with myself, and I wasn’t doing what I really wanted to do. Why? It usually always comes down to a couple of key components with the big fat trouble maker smack dab in the middle, namely F.E.A.R, the wild, untamed animal that tries to keep us playing small instead of the big, kick ass, cool dudes and dudesses (is that a word?) that we are.
What I’m about to share with you is something that I’ve been utilizing more and more and it will show you how to consistently grow in ways you can’t even imagine AND at the same time, ramp up your success in any area of your life to a whole new level quickly ANYTIME you want. It just flat out works, period.
This one idea, if implemented consistently (and it’s going to test you, scare you, and push your buttons), will rock your world with EXCITEMENT and FEAR, which is always the best indicator to me that you’re on the right path, and you just HAVE to do it.
If you choose the right stuff to focus on, you’ll be jumping up and down like a little kid on a sugar high grinning from ear to ear, and people will look at you like you’re really weird because you’re happy and having fun, (most people are sheepwalking and stopped fully living and having fun a long time ago, sad but true).
Now we know if you’re a “creative entrepreneur type”, that A) you are pretty weird in a good way of course (go ahead, you can admit it), and B) you’ve got your work cut out for you, but it’s worth every second of the journey because living your potential AND stepping into your stuff (all of it) is the only way to live, welcome to the club; (now go sit in the corner for a time out, because you know adults aren’t allowed to have fun, shame on you).
The Secret Sauce
OK, so here is the missing piece to why most people will never get what they want accomplished, or at the very least, not get to the next level, are you ready? Are you sure? (God I sound like a marketer don’t I, please send help)
Here goes:
“Set a condition in place that makes the outcome that you want Inevitable.”
Definition of Inevitable:
Unable to be avoided, evaded, or escaped; certain; necessary: an inevitable conclusion.
It’s simple AND extremely powerful.
OK, Mad Spiritual Guy, what the hell does that mean, and what about my needs?
So glad you asked Grasshopper…
Here’s the scoop.
If you want to ABSOLUTELY get something done, manifest a goal, create a project etc. there is NOTHING more powerful than accountability and/or going public with it.
For example, let’s say that you’ve been TALKING for years about publishing a book, creating a product, becoming a speaker, a stand up comedian, or selling everything that you own and running naked through the Icy Tundras (oh wait, that’s one’s mine sorry.)
So let’s take the speaker idea as an example. If you’ve never spoke in front of a crowd, are scared to death, but KNOW that you want to, then how can you make that outcome inevitable so that fear doesn’t win? (Because News Flash, Fear never really goes away. Every powerful person that I know, keeps raising the bar, and facing fear head on…get used to it).
One way is to book a speaking engagement to get in front of an audience that really matters to you. Now you have a date set and you need to get your little butt on stage fear or no fear.
To further your cause, make an announcement to your entire email list or document the before, during , and after speech on YouTube or a public blog with the specific date and description of what you’re delivering and show your journey (You might even find some fans and help some other people face their fears).
And to rub it in even deeper, toss it out to Twitter and Facebook, so all your friends and followers know all about it, and then if you don’t follow through, they can tweet to their 100K followers that you’re a total chicken poop.
If you don’t deliver on what you said, you may suffer great humiliation and perhaps 1000 lashes, which quite frankly is a great motivator. Just sayin’ and we Humans are far more motivated by pain than pleasure, (go figure).
I know this isn’t always going to be easy, but it’s a fantastic tool to get what you “say” that you want, and stop letting fear or excuses run you (and we all struggle with that). Some people have enough self discipline to do all this on their own (very few I might add), and it takes time to create new habits, but I guarantee you, that if you adopt this and REALLY commit to setting conditions in place that make your desired outcome inevitable, it will change your life fast, and you will become a whole different person every single time you commit and follow through.
Key Questions to Ask
If you get in the habit of asking these questions on a regular basis, you will see your results and your personal/business growth soar through the roof.
- What conditions do I need to put into place so the outcome and results that I want to happen do so automatically?
- How can I make this outcome/result inevitable?
You can find multiple ways that guarantee that you get it done, like hire a coach, team up with an accountability partner, donate to a charity if you don’t deliver, set public dates for launches, etc. and of course if all else fails, you can always sell everything you own and run naked through the Icy Tundras, and make sure you live stream it on Ustream TV for all of us to see.
I’m rooting for you, (and I’m watching you). It’s time we ALL step into our true Authentic power and stop letting fear or ANYTHING else for that matter mess with our visions and missions. So go out and make your dreams Inevitable (or I’m telling Oprah on you).
I would love to hear your comments, stories, fears, triumphs, and ummm (intentions, goals, outcomes, hint hint) so you can make them public, it will change your life guaranteed. And if you enjoyed this post, (and you better have dammit) please hit the RT button on Twitter (or I’ll be mad at you).

Scott – Thinking about that post makes me feel like I did when I flew my wife (then girlfriend) to London and toured the city all the while with an engagement ring in my pocket. If I remember correctly, it was a large dram of Lagavulin that got it out of my pocket. There was not, however, enough to get me into a kilt later that evening.
Where the he!! did I put that bottle?
Great work Scott, well put!
Regards,
Chip
Thanks Omar, appreciate the awesome words my friend.
And Chip, that is a perfect example, I love it. Purchasing the ring and having it be in your pocket, was a great start, and the booze was your condition in place to make it happen LOL!
Next time we definitely have to get you in kilt.
Scott – You haven’t seen my legs. Perhaps the kilt should be the drop-the-ball booby prize! Chip
It’s kind of like if you want to come face to face in front of a semi stand in the middle of a high way. It’s inevitable that’ll you’ll eventually meet an Ice Road trucker. I like the accountability factor; if we keep our dreams to ourselves then there they will remain; if we share them with people they’ll be sure to ask us about them. You rock Scottie!
Fantastic post Scott! I remember back about 18 years ago, I was at a large corporate function and there were around 300 of us in a large auditorium. I was watching the clock because I wanted to get the heck out of Dodge. The meeting was extending well beyond it’s scheduled time and I thought I’d sneak out the side door. I told one of my co-workers I was leaving and they said NO you can’t! I thought this was weird but finally the CEO who was speaking said “And one last thing, I’d like to present an award. This award is to the person who epitomizes the word innovation. This goes to a person nominated by over 25 people, Chris Kilber.” What? Me. I was then asked to go up, get the award, and speak in front of everyone. I remember going up there with 600 eyes looking at me. I said to everyone, “Well in the famous words of Willie Nelson, Does this mean I made it? You know I’m not really one to toot my own horn and I just know some of you are wondering why I’m so cool right now. You know I hate talking in front of people. Well I suspected that one day I might have to speak in front of a large group so I did a little studying. Just know this. Right now I’m imagining each and every one of you naked right now!”. It went over well.
I too like the accountability factor. Have a remarkable weekend.

Beautifully done! I tend to keep things to myself and then strike out and surprise everyone what I am doing…but you have me thinking about how I do things. I tend to take risks…but I’m wondering if I have reached a point that I only take risks now within my comfort zone. I have really stretched in the past like when I decided to purchase a 41 unit apartment complex with zero money. I phoned a friend and together we raised 1.1 million dollars in about 3 weeks to come up with a down payment. It was terribly scary then…it doesn’t seem so today though. However, that wasn’t putting myself on the line. There was nothing in that to make my personal self vulnerable to other people’s opinions or judgements. Buying a $5,000,000.00 property with no money was perhaps easier because I was personally detached from it. There was no one who was going to judge me because if I failed that…it wouldn’t have been such a big deal…after all, no one expected it to happen anyhow. (I have never thought of these things before and now I am sharing them with anyone who cares to read them…perhaps I am doing some growing even now as I write this). Anyhow, I am going to take your advice…I have started a number of books and never finished any of them. I’m now pretty sure that the FEAR thing has stopped me at a certain point each time. Am I afraid that people are not going to want it? Or, that people are going to think it’s lousy? Boy…things to ponder for sure. So, here and now I am announcing that I am going to finish my latest unfinished “masterpiece.” Oh that it were actually a work of fiction and I was doing this…but we must start somewhere and a manageable place to start is probably better than one that is near impossible at this point in time. I started an ebook sharing how we get such fast results on healing up injuries and dealing with pain…primarily sports injuries…but would apply to any. Perhaps not exciting…but important to a great deal of people. And just perhaps…the most important to me…since I have never actually finished a book that I have started. Okay Scott…not only did you get me rambling but you got me to let it out that I have been a coward in this area and I am facing my fears and will commit before the whole world that I am going to finish this book. Whatever the outcome…just having an outcome is probably a great place to start!
Thank you!

Scott, GREAT POST! Seriously…. It kind of gave me the feeling that I was sitting in church and the preacher (that would be you), was pointing directly at me in a crowded room of people. From the small bits of information I’ve shared with you so far about me, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about!!!
I will take this post to heart and listen to your wisdom!
Thanks!

Hey beautiful man, wonderful website. I have to go and make a list now and then I’ll get back to you on all the things I want to get done!!! But this is a wonderful tool for us all to keep on track. Thank you so much. Annie
@ Christine, @Bruce, @Chris, @Debbie, and @Annie…You are rock stars, and I appreciate your comments, and sharing your stories, that’s what it’s all about in this community…creating conversations and discussions so you can be authentic and real, and let your guard down, and not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
I started really using this idea of setting conditions and making the outcome inevitable a while back, and have accomplished amazing things. And you can use it for small things too like turning off the computer an hour earlier to be with the family or read, getting more exercise, eating better, waking up earlier etc.
Keep up the awesome work, and come back and fill us in what awesome things you’re accomplishing!
Ok so firstly my beautiful friend I have to acknowledge loudly and publicly that this post rocks! Did everyone hear that? THIS POST ROCKS! (yes, that’s for those of you sitting at the back!). This is a great tool and I will be using it as soon as i work out what my big cream is going to be next. I know sort of but not quite.
When I do I am going to let you know……
As always x
This is great! I know this (don’t we all) but how lovely it is to have a reminder that gets right to the heart of it. I am writing a book (there I’ve said it out loud -Whew!) and I here and now, promise to you and to myself that I will finish it!
Thank you Scott, now I have to get on with it!

Scott,
As a hit-man, knocking people off, I am constantly living on the fringe of fear. Whether or not I confront it is another story ;o)
In all seriousness, we get what we think about and speak and our goals are set into motion when we let others in on them. Thanks for this post.
My client volume in our business has never been where I like it to be and generating customer traffic has never been in my comfort zone. Well it needs to be done. and here I am telling you all:
I am going to increase our client volume by $1000.00 within a month.
There. Now, I’m going to make it happen.
You rock, thanks for talking personal accountability.

Hey Scott, I’m back among your online followers after taking an extra long weekend at our lake house to disconnect and unwind a bit. Great post … I know there are some things in my own life, business, etc. I have not done ( and wanted to) because of fear. Some of them I have tackled and some big ones I have to keep tackling over and over. I will continue to be a follower, and possibly a student soon … as I take great motivation and renewed beliefs in myself from you. Thanks again !!

Scott…. here ya go,
I have been ‘talking’ about starting my own clothing line for as long as i can remember. The dream came alive in me when i was about 9 years old and i saw my first fashion show on t.v. Ever since i have been drawing and dreaming of becoming that person who makes the creations that people love so much.
Earlier this year i kicked my self in the ass and bought a domain name, hosting and CS3. I came to realize that all of my life there have always been excuses, for everything. I have played the victim all of my life as well. Daddy issues…. What girl these days doesn’t have some of those… So i came into the light and realized that this has been holding me back. I realized also, that in some way i expected all i ever wanted, to just come to me. Because in some way I felt like it was owed to me for all i had been through. But when i FINALLY realized that was not going to happen… and that i needed to let go of the past, stop being the victim my life has taken a great turn. I have let go of all those things. I have no more excuses.
I give myself daily goals to achieve, and when I achieve them it makes me feel great. I am finally owning up to myself. I am no longer living in the dream world that i created in my head. I am making it all a reality. I have surrounded myself with great people, creative people, positive people. My mother is another story… I have yet to get in her head and bring her into the light. Well, to cut this short and not write you a book…. I am in the beginning of something great. Every day i am building my website, and my dreams.
I am a Fashion Designer, I love creating lingerie. For now I will be posting many one-of-a-kinds on my site. Everything is hand made by myself. Please check me out at http://www.TheMark44.com and all comments are welcome. There are no pictures up as of yet, but this week i am off of work on “vacation” i call it a working vacation… working on getting out of my 40hr a week job =) so by this Friday there should be some pictures and content…. be sure to check out my friends websites as well there are links on my website….
THERE Scott, I put myself out there…. =)
b.t.w. I like how you think…. your blog is interesting to read…. not dull or boring like most, you are very captivating….
Jamie
Hi Scott,
My first time here. Interesting post. I have also recognized the “self help hell” I was stuck in and finally started my blog. After my hopefully awesome road trip to CA, I will begin my next set of testing and put that on my blog.
So far, the struggle has been getting any traffic to my blog, but then again, it’s only 2 weeks old. I want to make passive income a reality and show others how to do it (without falling for a scam!)
Will visit often. If you have time, please drop by my blog and leave any input. Thanks!
